Getting into an opportunity class is difficult, with only 15% or so of all applicants being able to secure a spot. However, the opportunities which arise from the learning environment, fellow students, and schooling experiences which opportunity classes provide are well worth the effort it takes to get in.
- Are designed to familiarise each student with the structure, content and nature of their subjects and learning materials. We build the student’s confidence and attitude.
- Develop fundamental knowledge and skills within the student. We provide students with the necessary tools to excel and teach them how to leverage their knowledge to produce the best results
- Nurture holistic growth. Our program goes beyond academics, fostering study habits, positive attitudes, and practical study skills for proactive learning.
- Provide state-of-the-art resources with unlimited practice papers and targeted exercises. Our students receive a wealth of materials, including integrated practice papers, subject-specific targeting exercises, and exam technique practice worksheets.
Thinking Skills
Thinking skills was introduced to replace the General Ability section in the opportunity class exam. The Thinking Skills component of the exam was written with the intention to minimize the impact of additional tutoring on the performance of students. It is also generally regarded as more difficult due to its abstract nature, while other subjects are explicitly taught as part of the curriculum during primary school, thinking skills are developed more indirectly compared to other areas like mathematical reasoning.
Reading
Reading is a critical part of the development of students. This section of the exam is designed to test the ability of students to discern, evaluate, and internalise information. We ensure that students have a robust understanding of the different types of communication mediums, contexts, and purposes. Connect2learn tailor tutoring to leverage each student’s strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. For example, we often find that students struggle more with inference based questions. For such students, exam practice papers are then front-loaded with inference based questions interspersed with other question types. Connect2learn develop students by encouraging their desire to succeed and building their ability to tackle large blocks of text with ease. Our approach ensures that confidence on the topic is inevitable as students become more adept at navigating questions and excelling in results.
Mathematical Reasoning
The mathematical reasoning component of the opportunity class exam requires students to intuitively apply mathematical reasoning to diverse situations. Successful candidates must have strong reasoning, intuition, and robust mental math skills. Our approach leverages students' existing knowledge to quickly identify synergies with exam questions. We build fundamentals, patch knowledge gaps, and foster confidence and familiarity with the exam. Connect2Learn tutors promote diverse thinking and efficient problem-solving by teaching exam techniques, fostering confidence, and ingraining routine through practice. Unlike other providers, Connect2Learn emphasizes inference skills in mathematical reasoning, dedicating time to develop these abilities in our students.

How does connect2learn work ?
For Connect2Learn’s in-home lessons, we collaborate with you to schedule a convenient time for your initial session. Your designated tutor will arrive at your residence with all materials prepared for a seamless start. Expect a helpful reminder email 24 hours prior to each weekly lesson.
Opting for online lessons? Receive a timely reminder email 24 hours before your scheduled session, complete with the online lesson link. Simply click the button when you’re ready to embark on your virtual learning journey!
Can I try a few sessions ?
Unfortunately, we only allow trials for the very first lesson with a tutor but you can swap tutors as many times as you’d like till you find the perfect one without paying. Keep in mind however a reasonable section of the first lesson revolves around getting to know your tutor and your tutor being able to understand where your child needs help with.
At Connect2Learn, there’s no long-term commitment. You have the freedom to pause or cancel your sessions at any time, only paying for the attended sessions. Your educational journey with us is designed to be adaptable and tailored to your needs.
How are online lessons conducted?
Once your lesson is scheduled, anticipate receiving an email 24 hours in advance containing the link to your session. No downloads necessary – our online classroom seamlessly loads in your browser.
Every lesson is meticulously recorded, empowering you to review the material at your convenience. This ensures that your child receives the finest education possible, with the flexibility to revisit lessons and reinforce their learning journey
Are There Any Hidden Charges
There are no hidden fees. We include GST, credit card fees and transport costs into the final price. What you see is what you’ll pay.
Do I Even Need a Tutor
Tutoring for us is more than just students who struggle. In fact, we believe that most students who are at the top, are there because they have a mentor, someone to support them.
Tutoring to us is so much more than just teaching. It’s about giving your child a partner to take their education journey with, whilst enjoying every step of the way.
Every student has something to gain from tutoring and we aim to teach student’s how to do more than just memorise, but applying their concepts to other areas of life.
How will I know that tutoring is effective?
Students are unique in the way they like to learn things. That’s why we do so many things to make sure that your child is on track with their own personalised teaching lessons.
We test students regularly to monitor improvements. We know that you might not know what’s happening with your child’s progress so we make sure tutors submit feedback reports weekly and a detailed monthly feedback report. Tutors are also given a sample test for students to gauge how far along in their education they are and what areas specifically they require help in.
You can also let your tutor know that you would like your child to be tested and we would be more than happy to assist with this.
